Marseille falter again

Marseille falter again

Reigning Ligue 1 champions Marseille took another body blow, allowing a late equaliser in their clash with Bordeaux.

Having started the season with just three points from three games - including losses to Caen and Valenciennes - Marseille got off to a brilliant start at Stade Jacques Chaban-Delmas, with a 12th-minute goal to Lucho Gonzalez handing the visitors the lead.

However, a red card to Edouard Cisse in the 33rd minute changed the flow of the game.

The champions almost held on to record a defiant victory, before Anthony Modeste headed home from a Jaroslav Plasil cross in the 88th minute to ensure the sides shared the points at 1-1.

Sochaux made the most of an uncertain Paris Saint-Germain defence, scoring all their three goals in the opening half to all-but wrap up a 3-1 win at Stade Bonal.

Paris manager Antoine Kombouare had demanded an improvement from his defence after a league loss to Bordeaux last week and conceding four in the Europa League to Maccabi Tel Aviv.

But Sochaux broke through the PSG defence after 13 minutes, with Modibo Maiga tapping home from close range after Paris goal-keeper Gregory Coupet parried an effort from Nicolas Maurice-Belay.

They doubled their lead six minutes later when Maurice-Belay burst past his opponent to feed a pass to Brown Ideye, who finished past Coupet.

Damien Perquis made it three on the stroke of half-time, before Guillaume Hoarau pegged a goal back for the visitors in the 50th minute.

A spectacular volley from AS Monaco's Daniel Niculae set up a 2-0 win for the club over AJ Auxerre at Stade Louis II.

Niculae's strike came in the 52nd minute, before Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang extended Monaco's lead seven minutes later from close range after getting on the end of a Dieumerci Mbokani cross.

Lille made it four draws from as many appearances in the league this season with a 1-1 stalemate against Nice at Stadium Lille Metropole.

Emerse Fae opened the scoring for the visitors in the 34th minute with a penalty after Adil Rami fouled Eric Mouloungui inside the box.

Eden Hazard levelled for the hosts to give them four points and 11th place on the Ligue 1 table.

Topping the league is Toulouse with 12 points followed by Stade Rennes and Montpellier on eight points, while Arles is the only pointless team after four games.
