Seeds Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Agnes Szavay have both advanced to the second round of the Monterrey Open in Mexico but the same couldn't be said for top seed Jelena Jankovic.
The Serbian may have claimed the first set from opponent Anastasija Sevastova but the Latvian woman fought back hard to claim victory in a 5-7 6-4 6-4 result.
Third-seeded Russian Pavlyuchenkova, meanwhile, conceded just three games in crushing Georgian qualifier Anna Tatishvili 6-1 6-2 but Hungarian No.5 seed Szavay needed three sets to see off German Julia Goerges 6-3 3-6 6-3.
Italian Sara Errani likewise cruised past Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6-2 6-3, Slovenian Polona Hercog ousted Italian qualifier Corinna Dentoni 6-2 6-4 and Czech Iveta Benesova battled past American Jill Craybas 3-6 6-2 6-1.
Goerges' countrywoman Anna-Lena Groenefeld fared better as she brushed aside Czech Lucie Hradecka 6-2 6-4 as Frenchwoman Alize Cornet completed a poor day for the Czech contingent by seeing off Barbora Zahlavova Strycova 6-3 6-1.
Estonian Kaia Kanepi was pushed all the way before progressing with a 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 defeat of Spaniard Arantxa Parra Santonja and Austrian Patricia Mayr ran away from Ukrainian qualifier Olga Savchuk 7-6 (7-5) 6-0.
