Canterbury skipper Andrew Ryan says Jamal Idris' playing form will dictate whether the Bulldogs need to step in and demand the Origin star comes clean on his future plans.
Idris has been shopped around to Newcastle and Gold Coast over the past fortnight, touring the clubs' facilities as he weighs up big money contracts from both.
The Bulldogs are desperate to hang onto the gun 20-year-old but are mindful of heaping extra pressure on the most sought after player in the NRL.
Cameras captured Idris' every move at training on Thursday and trailed him off the ground where he offered little on what his next step may be.
Asked if he feared the chase for Idris' signature could escalate into a circus, Ryan responded: "Jamil's a pretty casual character."
"At the moment it's not affecting him. He's playing outstanding and that's all the signs we want to see."
"It's not wearing him down at all."
"As long as he's doing his job for us - and he's certainly doing that - (we're fine with it)."
Pressed on whether it was a good look to have a contracted player being paraded around at rival clubs, Ryan continued: "It's the way it is in the NRL."
"It was his day off and he can do what he likes on his day off."
"If he's still producing on the field and on the training paddock and he's in the right head space, that's all we can ask."
"Everyone right throughout the club wants him to stay but at this stage he hasn't signed for us (but) he is contracted to us for this season to play rugby league."
"I'm hoping (it doesn't turn into a circus)."
Winger Steve Turner, who is benefitting from playing outside Idris, insists the dreadlocked centre's team-mates are comfortable with the uncertainty.
"He's only 20 and has plenty of years left in the game so let him take as long as he wants," Turner said.
"He's the talk of the town at the moment but all he can control and we can control is playing good football."
"It's up to Jamil and the people around him to sort out his career."
"It (the contract talk) hasn't hurt him so far. He's been playing some really good footy."
