American Tommy Gainey produced a six-under 65 on Sunday to regain the lead of the Phoenix Open, where a couple of Australians remain well in the hunt at the halfway stage.
After a first-day 63, Gainey was not going to relinquish his grip after the second round as he hit seven birdies and a bogey in another exciting display of golf.
Frost had caused havoc with the tournament's schedule on the first two days and while golfers were able to complete their second round, many did not begin their third with darkness forcing players to come back on Monday to play the third round.
This ensures a Tuesday finish, the first at the event since 1978.
Aussies Geoff Ogilvy (66) and Aaron Baddeley (68) are both well-placed for a charge at the title over the last 36 holes, back in a tie for seventh at nine-under.
Gainey began his round with a hat-trick of birdies which included a 12-foot birdie putt at the par-four second and maintained his consistency throughout his round to lead Mark Wilson by one stroke.
"(Playing professional golf is) the best job in the world. We get to play for $1 million every week. I'm just happy to be here," said Gainey, who is yet to win on the PGA Tour.
Wilson is one behind the leader, after he completed his second round to finish with a seven-under-par 64, while the in-form Bill Haas is a shot adrift after a second successive round of 65.
The United States have a stranglehold at the top of the leaderboard, with Chris Couch (11-under), and Rickie Fowler and Phil Mickelson (10-under) completing an all-American top six.
Fowler shot the best score of the day, with his nine-under-par 62 thrilling fans at TPC Scottsdale as he hit seven birdies and an eagle, including a seven-hole hot streak from holes 11 to 17 which saw him make up seven shots.
Four players are a further shot back, Ogilvy and Baddeley joined by and Americans Jason Dufner and Jonathan Byrd all five shots from the lead and occupying spots in the top 10.
Thirteen players are at eight-under, although several, including the likes of South African Rory Sabbatini and Japan's Ryuji Imada, have begun their third round.
Other highlights on Sunday included a hole-in-one for Australian Jarrod Lyle on the 16th hole, while American Brendan Steele also achieved the rare feat on the 12th.
Both players are tied for 37th and will be hopeful of repeating the dose on Monday to take them up the leaderboard.
