Sunderland signed Ghana international striker Asamoah Gyan to a four-year deal worth a club-record 13 million pounds in one of the biggest deals on a quiet transfer deadline day.

The 24-year-old was expected to depart French Ligue 1 side Rennes after turning heads with three goals for his country at the World Cup in South Africa.

Fulham left-back Paul Konchesky is on his way to Anfield to reunite with Roy Hodgson after signing a four-year deal with Liverpool in the final hours of the transfer window.

Reds reserve duo Lauri Dalla Valle and Alex Kacaniklic will move to Craven Cottage as part of the deal.

Robinho's exit from Manchester City was confirmed with the Brazil forward signingfor AC Milan on a four-year deal.

Meanwhile, Wigan Athletic signed Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley on a season-long loan, as well as former Chelsea striker Franco Di Santo on a three-year contract.

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez was pleased to secure the services of Cleverley.

"We have been watching him for some time and feel he is the right sort of player to join our squad; young, hungry, desperate to play for the club in the Premier League and to grow with us," he said.

Tottenham secured Croatian international goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa on a season-long loan from Spartak Moscow.

The Russian Premier League outfit also lost their captain Martin Jiranek, who has joined Birmingham City on a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old Czech Republic international will be joined at St Andrew's by Barcelona winger Alexander Hleb, who has joined the Blues on a one-year loan deal.

In a busy day for Birmingham, they also secured Chilean World Cup winger Jean Beausejour from Mexican side Club America in a reported four-million-pound deal.

Stoke City secured loan deals for Eidur Gudjohnsen from French Ligue 1 side Monaco and Real Zaragoza's Jermaine Pennant, as well as a permanent deal for Portsmouth captain Marc Wilson in a busy afternoon at the Staffordshire-based club.

The Potters also welcomed midfielder Salif Diao back to the club on a two-year deal after his contract expired at the end of last term.

Benfica forward Rodrigo Moreno will move to Bolton Wanderers on a season-long loan, subject to international clearance.

English Premier League newcomers Blackpool have moved on highly-rated winger Matt Phillips, signing the 19-year-old from Football League Two club Wycombe Wanderers.

The Seasiders also confirmed the signing of Leicester City striker DJ Campbell, who returns on a two-year contract after helping Blackpool gain promotion last term while on loan from the Foxes.

In Scotland, Celtic have made their 11th signing of the transfer window, picking up striker Anthony Stokes on a four-year deal from rival club Hibernian.

The 22-year-old was the Hibs' top-scorer last term with 23 goals.

Hibernian acquired defender Francis Dickoh on a one-year deal from Dutch Eredivisie club FC Utrecht.

Kilmarnock secured the services of midfielder Alexei Eremenko on a season-long loan from Russian Premier League club Metalist Kharkiv.
