Wolff backs Rosberg's mental fortitude

Formula One championship leader Rosberg made two mistakes in braking at Monza, allowing team-mate Lewis Hamilton to take the lead and eventually win the race.

Rosberg was able to finish second, but Hamilton's victory means the gap between the two at the top of the standings now stands at 22 points with six races still remaining.

Ahead of the race in Singapore a week on Sunday, Wolff has backed Rosberg to put the disappointment of Monza behind him.

"Mentally he is very strong," he told the Mercedes team website. "If you want to be world champion you have to go through the highs and lows.

"Lewis has had many of them and came back - Nico had the same at Silverstone and also came back. So he has the mental strength to recover.

"You need extreme mental strength to make it to the end and win the championship.

"I think both of them have that in them - to bounce back after a bad weekend.

"Before the incident in Spa they were going back and forth, when one had a good week and the other one not, but neither of them ever really had a low afterwards."
