Whincup, Davison top times sheets in Ipswich

A morning of back-to-back qualifying sessions in Ipswich saw Red Bull-s Jamie Whincup take pole for Race 23 with Ford driver Will Davison securing his first pole of the season for Race 24.

Whincup, who won the first race of the weekend on Saturday, dominated race two qualifying with the defending champion claiming the new Queensland Raceway qualifying record of one minute, 9.07 seconds to top the timesheets.

He was joined in the top three by young Kiwi Scott McLaughlin (1:09.31) and fellow Holden driver James Courtney, who celebrated signing a three-year contract renewal with HRT by clocking a 1:09.33).

The tables turned in qualifying for Race 24 session as Davison stormed to pole, erasing Whincup-s nearly set record with a blistering lap of one minute, 9.05 seconds to finish ahead of rising star Chaz Moster (1:09.10) and David Reynolds (1:09.13).
