Rossi - who has won six MotoGP world titles and narrowly missed out on a seventh this past season, losing out to Movistar Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo - has previously raced in the World Rally Championship on three occasions.

The Italian crashed out of the 2002 Rally of Great Britain before finishing 11th in the 2006 Rally New Zealand and then returning to the British rally in 2008, finishing 12th.

He has also tested for Ferrari in Formula One in 2006 but opted to remain in MotoGP, however, the 37-year-old indicated he could yet return to the rally scene when his career on two wheels is over.

Rossi said: "I have a great passion for cars because when I remember growing up, my father Graziano, when he stopped with the bikes he raced in rally.

"It gives me a lot of passion like it did to him. I would like to race a lot with the cars when I finish with MotoGP.

"But anyway I will try to stay for some more years in MotoGP and when I stop, for sure I can do something with the car, I don't know if it is rally or something else."
