Scott Dixon kick-started his IndyCar season with victory at the Grand Prix of Long Beach on Sunday.

The New Zealander had made a slow start to his 2015 campaign with 15th- and 11th-place finishes to begin the year.

But the Chip Ganassi Racing driver got his season going with victory at the street circuit in California.

Team Penske duo Helio Castroneves and Juan Pablo Montoya finished second and third respectively in a race that Dixon led for 44 of the 80 laps.

The win marked Dixon's 36th IndyCar victory.

Only an early incident led to a four-lap caution, with Dixon dominant and ending up 2.2 seconds ahead of Castroneves.

Montoya (119 points) remains top of the standings ahead of Castroneves (116) and Tony Kanaan (93).

Dixon rose to fourth on 87 points.
