Rosberg unfazed by Hamilton's pace

Nico Rosberg said he was completely unconcerned about the apparent pace difference between him and Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton in qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix.

The German dominated the practice sessions on Friday, but Hamilton responded on Saturday on his way to taking pole position at Albert Park.

Rosberg qualified second, but he was 0.594 seconds slower than the reigning world champion.

Despite the significant gap, Rosberg believes it was his failure to put together a strong lap that cost him – not a difference in pace.

"It's not indicative of the pace difference. I didn't get my laps together today. I'm not worried about pace at all," he said.

"Race is always a different thing, maybe I can even turn it around tomorrow."

Williams' Felipe Massa said the Mercedes drivers were in a "different category" after the Brazilian qualified in third, 1.391 seconds slower than Hamilton.

Rosberg was happy with his car but worried about the gusty and changing wind in Melbourne.

"It was difficult because the wind had changed again from the session this afternoon. It was different again and it has a big impact on the car," he said.

"We all had to adapt again to it and that's why it was particularly difficult out there.

"My balance was good and my car was really good."
