Rosberg demands clean fight with Hamilton

After a thrilling 2014 campaign that has seen the Mercedes duo duel for the F1 World Championship, the title race draws to a close on Sunday.

Hamilton, the 2008 champion, holds a 17-point advantage over Rosberg but, with double points on offer this weekend, the German would win the title with a win and the Briton placing lower than second.

The rivals have been embroiled in several high-profile incidents this season, with Hamilton accusing Rosberg of deliberately stopping on track to derail his qualifying efforts in Monaco before the pair had a coming together in Belgium for which Rosberg later apologised.

But with the stakes so high this weekend, Rosberg has demanded that the championship be decided for the right reasons.

"Lewis can do something to keep it clean which is to drive cleanly himself, so it's not like he can't do anything," he said.

"I need to do what I can to put pressure on Lewis. He made a mistake [at the last grand prix] in Brazil, so there's a chance. I'll do what I can.

"It's going to be intense and a great battle and I look forward to it, that's what I have been working towards for a while now, for that sort of chance.

Rosberg also believes that Hamilton is under more pressure going into the race, adding: "Lewis has everything to lose, I have everything to gain, with the points advantage that he has and the way things have been playing out the last couple of races.

"So from that point of view the pressure is definitely on him."

For his part, Hamilton stated that the intention before any grand prix is to provide a clean race and that Abu Dhabi will be no different, while insisting the pair do not need to discuss what is required to ensure a fair conclusion.

"Yes [it will be a clean race]," he said. "I don't really know what else to say. You always go into the weekend believing it's going to be the case.

"No [we won't talk about it]. We don't need to. It's been discussed at the beginning of the season and several times through the season and particularly after Spa again. We're not children. We should know what is wrong and what is right."
