Ricciardo in party mode after Hungary win

The Australian clinched his maiden Formula One victory in Canada last month and repeated the trick at the Hungaroring to claim a maximum 25-point haul.

After the safety car was deployed on a couple of occasions with drivers struggling for control in the wet conditions, Ricciardo passed Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton and then Ferrari's Fernando Alonso in successive laps towards the end of a thrilling race.

Alonso finished second and Hamilton was just able to hold off a fierce challenge from team-mate Nico Rosberg to clinch third.

With nine of 11 races won by the Mercedes duo so far this season, Ricciardo is the only other man to have topped the podium, and the 25-year-old plans to savour the moment as the campaign heads into a four-week break.

"It feels as good as the first win, it really does," he said.

"The safety car at first played to our advantage but the second one didn't really help us, but we got there in the end and I had to do the overtaking at the end which was fun.

"I am definitely going to celebrate tonight, party for a few days and enjoy a few days off.

"Then I will continue with the second half of the season and I can't wait for Spa [the venue for the Belgian Grand Prix], but I want to thank the team for everything they have done to help me win my first races."

Alonso was delighted to record his best finish of 2014, after a first half of the season that had seen the Spaniard struggle to contend for victories.

"I am extremely satisfied, it has been a tough season so to get a podium is always a nice surprise," he said.

"We took a gamble to try to get the victory and we got very close.

"I am extremely proud of my drive and the team and very proud of the result. We need some crazy races to get a podium and we took our chances today."
