Ricciardo dismisses Red Bull decline

The Australian has enjoyed a fine Formula One season with the four-time constructors' champions and sits third behind runaway Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in the drivers' standings.

Ricciardo has outshone four-time world champion and team-mate Sebastian Vettel routinely in 2014 - out-qualifying the German 10 times from 16 attempts.

Vettel has confirmed he will leave for pastures new at the end of the campaign - reportedly Ferrari - but Ricciardo does not believe this is a sign of Red Bull's empire crumbling, with Russian teenager Daniil Kvyat to fill the void.

"I wouldn't say it worries me," Ricciardo is quoted by ESPN.

"It's clear this year Red Bull is not the dominant team it has been for the last four years, I guess. But that's inevitable; you can't stay on top forever.

"I don't fear it all decreasing for next year and I don't fear a downward slope but obviously it's now up to me and Dani to keep the team at the front and to try and build and get them back to the top."

Kvyat is following Ricciardo's lead in stepping up to Red Bull from sister team Toro Rosso.

Fernando Alonso - two-time drivers' champion and widely regarded as one of the paddock's top drivers - has long been linked to Red Bull, but Ricciardo is happy with his incoming colleague.

He added: "It's a bit surprising but I think Red Bull took a similar risk in a similar scenario with me last year and I think that's paid off really well for them.

"They have that same opportunity to take with Dani, plus I'm sure he's bit cheaper than Alonso as well! Maybe that money [the team saved] can go into the development and we can hopefully fight for the world title."
