Red Bull on top in Hungary practice

Red Bull sent a warning to their rivals ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix as Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber dominated practice on Friday.

The pair finished first and second respectively in both sessions, with current overall standings leader Vettel looking particularly strong as he bids for the first victory of his career at the Hungaroring.

Fernando Alonso of Ferrari remains the likeliest challenger to the German's supremacy in the drivers' championship, but could muster no better than fourth best in both his outings at a track where he last won in 2003.

Another man who has previously tasted success in Hungary, Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen, saw an encouraging first session ruined by a disappointing second as he dropped from third to eighth.

By contrast, Raikkonen's team-mate Romain Grosjean - who finished behind the Finn and Vettel to squeeze onto the podim in Germany - moved from fifth to third as he came in just 0.153secs behind Vettel in the second practice.

Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton also gained ground to jump from 13th to sixth despite Mercedes struggling to get to grips with the reintroduced Pirelli tyres.

The Englishman won the 2012 edition of the race, and will hope to perform well in order to close the gap to third-place Raikkonen in the standings.

He will need to see off both Red Bull drivers and the joint Ferrari challenge of Alonso and Felipe Massa if he is to do so, with that quartet joining Grosjean in going quicker in the final practice.

Qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix will take place on Saturday ahead of Sunday's race.
