Red Bull look 'stupid', blasts Webber

Red Bull's Mark Webber has blasted an 'embarrassing' spate of technical problems during qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Australian will start Sunday's race at the Hungaroring in 10th place after failing to set a time in the third session of qualifying.

Webber had to contend with a failure to his KERS system as well as a faulty gearbox, and has urged his mechanics to solve the problems ahead of race day.

"KERS, gearbox, you name it. Driving the car around so far off the potential it's unbelievable, so it's massively frustrating," he told Sky Sports.

"We look stupid, it's embarrassing. It's a brutal circuit to be out of position on. We should be challenging for the front row which is possible and we're bloody 10th.

"So it's a pain in the arse and it's amazing all the effort you go to and then you have two weekends on the bounce when you get that.

"We've got to get car operating at the limit the first thing tomorrow. It's a long race with not everything functioning correctly.

"So we've got to get that sorted for tomorrow but as usual it's going to be hard to get the result we could have potentially got."

Lewis Hamilton secured pole for the third race in succession, blasting ahead of Sebastian Vettel in the process, and the Mercedes man admitted he was stunned by his car's performances after initially struggling in Friday practice.

The 28-year-old has failed to convert his three poles so far this season into wins, and conceded he will struggle to win against the pace of Red Bull and Lotus, with Vettel second and Romain Grosjean starting third.

"I was really surprised when I came across the line and they told me I had pole, I was expecting it to be Sebastian," he added. "It didn't even feel that (it had been that) great a lap.

"It is going to be tough tomorrow. Our long runs (on Friday) didn't feel like a disaster, but it definitely wasn't as good as the guys sitting next to me.

"I was just saying to Sebastian, we've obviously got a good car and good pace, so it's just a shame about the tyre issues else we would be able to compete in the race. We'll do the best we can and try to hold on to Sebastian for as long as we can.

"We've got a steep hill to climb with these tyres and if we did win it would be a miracle. I still feel the win is a while off."
