Ogier eyes title at Rallye de France

The Frenchman leads the world standings by 50 points ahead of the three remaining races, having picked up six wins so far this season.

While the 30-year-old was forced to retire in Germany two races ago, Ogier is on the verge of securing a second world title after finishing first in Australia - a win and second place in the power stage will be enough to hold off team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala.

The Volkswagen man needs to gain six points more than Latvala to wrap up the title, although he will need to improve on his recent asphalt performances.

Ogier struggled on the surface last time out in Germany but he remains determined to secure a second title in his homeland.

"The home rally is always very special for me," he said.

"My goal is to be crowned world champion in my own country again. To do this, however, I must score six points more than my team-mate Jari-Matti Latvala. A win could be enough.

"I think Jari-Matti will once again be my fiercest rival. We have to do our job better this time than at the last asphalt rally in Germany, and finish with both cars."

Ogier was winner at the event last year but will likely face stern competition from Finland's Latvala and Norwegian Andreas Mikkleson.

Latvala was also forced to retire in Germany but has six podium finishes to his name this season while Mikkleson has only finished outside the top four twice.

While the Volkswagen driver was unable to take advantage of Ogier and Latvala's retirements in Germany, Mikkleson feels confident in securing third place overall.

"My goal is third in the championship," he explained.

"I am looking forward to driving on asphalt again - particularly after we enjoyed such a good Rally Germany recently. Hopefully I can improve again this time.

"My goal is also to seal third place overall in the Drivers' Championship in France. That would give me free rein in Spain and Wales, as I would not have to concern myself with the World Championship situation."
