NASCAR tracks making plans to add SAFER barriers to reduce crash injuries

Track officials work on damage to the SAFER barrier

NASCAR tracks in New Hampshire, Kentucky, Charlotte and Talladega are planning to add additional sections of the energy-absorbing SAFER barriers ahead of their Sprint Cup races.

According to NASCAR Talk, tracks around the circuit are examining spots where they don’t have SAFER barriers after Kyle Busch’s head-on crash into a concrete wall at Daytona resulted in a compound fracture in his right leg and a broken left foot.

Although Matt Crafton replaced Busch in the Daytona 500, 18-year-old Erik Jones has emerged as the leading candidate to replace Busch moving forward.

Ahead of this weekend's races, Atlanta Motor Speedway announced it will add tire packs to protect the inside wall in Turn 4. Charlotte Motor Speedway will ship over 1,100 tires to Atlanta to be installed before Thursday's test session.
