F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone revealed the country's return to the calendar on Wednesday, after Mexico just missed the cut to make it onto the 2014 schedule.

"I am pleased to confirm that Formula One will be back in Mexico City in 2015," he said.

"I feel it is the right time for F1 for and Mexico and I'm sure it will be to the benefit of both for many years. I look forward to welcoming you all to this global event next year."

Tavo Hellmund, a long-time associate of Ecclestone and key player in getting a Grand Prix to United States soil, said helping take a race back to Mexico fulfilled a long-term goal.

"Ever since Bernie and I began working on a race at Austin, it's been a dream of mine to help Formula One return to Mexico," Hellmund said.

"This announcement has therefore been years in the making, but we've gradually been able to assemble all the right pieces. I'm absolutely delighted."

The news means that the sport's two Mexican drivers, Force India's Sergio Perez and Sauber's Esteban Gutierrez, will get the chance to compete on home soil next year.
