Mercedes will 'nail it' - Rosberg

Nico Rosberg said reigning constructors' champions Mercedes had a "great" Formula One off-season and will start brilliantly at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

Speaking after the final day of testing in Barcelona, the German driver declared Mercedes will "nail it completely" at the Australian GP as they look to defend their team title, while Rosberg's team-mate Lewis Hamilton will be aiming for back-to-back drivers' championships.

Rosberg set the seventh-fastest time in Barcelona on Sunday, over two seconds adrift of Williams' Valtteri Bottas (one minute, 23.063 seconds), although Mercedes' 29-year-old claimed the best time in Catalonia throughout the weekend of testing - 1:22.792secs.

"It has been a great [European] winter for us," Rosberg said.

"We got off to a running start with not many reliability problems, and have been doing the mileage - which was great and important.

"Now we are able to extract performance from the car.

"I am not 100 per cent happy yet but we know what we need to do, so that is important.

"And that is why I am sure we will nail it completely in Melbourne."

Mercedes started briskly in Australia last year too, with Hamilton claiming pole position before withdrawing due to engine failure on the second lap, although Rosberg moved up from third to greet the chequered flag.

Hamilton went on to win the next four races for a total of 11 victories, while Rosberg notched five, plus an unmatched 11 poles.
