McRae hails 'complete' Ogier

Sebastien Ogier and Volkswagen are the "complete" WRC package and his rivals must raise their game to beat him, says former driver Alister McRae.

Two-time world champion Ogier has started the season superbly with victories in all three rallies, already opening up a 34-point lead at the top of the drivers' standings.

The Frenchman is following in the footsteps of Sebastian Loeb who won the title nine years on the trot, and McRae believes Ogier could replicate that dominance if he can maintain his high level of performance.

"At the moment he's [Ogier] on a bit of a roll of rally wins," McRae told Perform. "I think he is the most complete driver at the moment.

"When you are in what is arguably the best car at the moment and he is the best driver, then to beat him somebody else has to get their package at 100 per cent and nobody is doing that at the moment.

"He's not making any mistakes, he seems to be very comfortable in that environment and when you are comfortable and not making mistakes, while it doesn't become easy, you get into that zone where you are confident and when you're in that zone it's very hard to beat him.

"There is always possibility [he could replicate Loeb], but I do think rallying is having a bit of a turnaround at the moment.

"I think then it would be difficult to do what Loeb managed to do, that's not to say he can't but hopefully there are drivers there that can get on top of their game and give him a run for his money because it makes it more interesting when you're not getting the same results every week."

Ogier will look to continue his dominant form at the start of the season when the Rally Argentina gets underway on Thursday.
