Marquez out to make MotoGP history

MarcMarquez

The 21-year-old will become the first rider to record 13 premier-class wins in a year if he can triumph on home soil.

Marquez's victory in Malaysia last month saw him draw level with Australian Mick Doohan's record of 12 wins in a season - set in 1997.

But the Repsol Honda man can go one better with another success in what has been a dominant year for the Spaniard.

Marquez, who won the first 10 races of 2014 to take a commanding championship lead, ended a five-event winless run with his Malaysia glory.

And in front of what is sure to be a passionate Spanish crowd, Marquez - who sealed his title in Valencia last year - is excited to end the season on a high.

"The past month has been a whirlwind and winning the Championship in Japan seems like a long time ago now," Marquez told Moto GP's official website.

"Now we head to Valencia for the final race of an incredible season.

"It's always nice to race in front of the home fans and this year it will be much more relaxed.

"I will be able to enjoy it without any pressure."

History says Marquez is every chance, with the last 10 races in Spain being won by countrymen - Casey Stoner the last foreigner to succeed when he won at Jerez in 2012.

While Marquez (337 points) has already sealed his win, the battle between Movistar Yamaha team-mates Valentino Rossi (275) and Jorge Lorenzo (263) for second goes to the final day.

Rossi won in Australia last month and was second behind Marquez in Malaysia, meaning he is the man in form.

And while Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa is fourth in the standings, with 230 points - meaning he cannot break into the top three - he could produce victory given his excellent Valencia record.

The Spaniard has won six times at the track, with three successes coming in MotoGP, and he hopes to add to his impressive tally.

Pedrosa said: "Obviously I'm now out of the race for second or third in the Championship.

"But I'm looking forward to going to Valencia and finishing the season on a high. This is always a special race for me…my results here in the past have been strong."
