Marko: Red Bull could quit F1

Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko has warned that the team could pull out of Formula One if there is not a change to regulations that he believes will "kill the sport."

Mercedes dominated the 2014 season to end a run of four consecutive years in which Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel were crowned champions.

Reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton and team-mate Nico Rosberg finished first and second respectively in the first race of the 2015 season in Australia on Sunday, and Mercedes look set to rule the roost once again this year.

Daniel Ricciardo was lapped before finishing sixth and Daniil Kvyat was unable to start due to a gearbox problem as Red Bull started the season in disappointing fashion.

Marko said after the race that Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz may sever his ties with F1 if action is not taking to make the sport a more level playing field.

He is quoted as telling the Austrian media: "We will evaluate the situation again [in the summer] as every year and look into costs and revenues,

"If we are totally dissatisfied we could contemplate an F1 exit. The danger is there that Mr Mateschitz loses his passion for F1.

"These power units are the wrong solution for F1, and we would say this even if [Red Bull supplier] Renault were in the lead. The technical rules are not understandable, much too complicated, and too expensive.

"We are governed by an engineers' formula. We wanted cost reduction too, but it is not happening like this. These rules will kill the sport."
