The retired Formula One driver escaped injury despite slamming his Porsche into the wall during, before it burst into flames and spun across the track.
The 38-year-old was taken away on a stretcher, and waved to the crowd with a thumbs up as the ambulance took him to hospital.
Porsche Motorsport later tweeted Webber was not injured, while world governing body FIA said he was alert and awake after being taken to the circuit's medical centre for further checks.
Webber had initially collided with Ferrari's Matteo Cressoni, who was also unhurt.
