Manor moved a step closer to making a return to Formula One on Thursday as they passed the FIA's crash tests.

The team, formerly known as Marussia, experienced financial difficulties last year which caused them to enter administration and miss the final three races of the season.

However, a statement confirmed on Wednesday that investment from Stephen Fitzpatrick had enabled them to exit administration and begin planning for the new campaign, which begins in Australia on March 15.

Manor will use modified 2014 Marussia cars for the first part of the season, and a short message on Twitter on Thursday read: "Our big news of today is that we have now passed the FIA crash tests.

"Well done team! That's it - we're all set for Melbourne!"

Will Stephens has already been named as a driver, with the identity of his team-mate yet to be revealed.
