The Danish driver kicked off his F1 career in superb style by claiming second place at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

However, despite out-qualifying team-mate Jenson Button in 10 out of 18 races, Magnussen has managed just one additional top-five finish since then.

As a result, the 22-year-old sits 10th in the drivers' championship, three places and 51 points behind his experienced English colleague.

With McLaren yet to make a decision on their driver line-up for 2015, and Fernando Alonso strongly linked with a return to the team, Magnussen is eager to make an impression at the Yas Marina circuit.

He is quoted by Crash.net as saying: "I really want to finish this season with a decent result for the whole team, who have all worked so hard to keep improving our package race by race."

Magnussen finished ninth at the Brazilian Grand Prix last time out as Button claimed fourth place.

"Jenson's result in the last race in Brazil was really positive for the whole team, and shows that our car's performance is definitely improving," added Magnussen.

"For me personally it was a tough weekend as the car definitely had potential, but we did not manage to get the most out of it on my side of the garage, so that is something we will really be focusing on in Abu Dhabi."
