Lorenzo sets early pace in Australia

The Spaniard's time of one minute 29.602 seconds in second practice proved to be the quickest on a fine day.

Countryman Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) topped first practice, and his time was the day's second quickest but 0.147secs slower.

World champion Marc Marquez, who sealed the 2014 title in Japan on Sunday, was third quickest on his Repsol Honda.

Lorenzo crashed at the Honda hairpin late in the session, but walked away unscathed.

Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) broke 1:30 in second practice to be fourth and fifth fastest respectively.

Lorenzo's team-mate Valentino Rossi was sixth as the only other rider to be inside the 1:30 barrier.

Cal Crutchlow (Ducati), Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha), Yonny Hernandez (Energy TI Pramac) and Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda) completed the top 10.
