Lorenzo predicts upturn in form

The Spaniard finished runner-up last season but has struggled to match those standards this time around, with compatriot Marc Marquez in irresistible form at the top of the standings.

Lorenzo underwent surgery for a broken collarbone late last year and has made just two podiums from eight attempts this term.

Sitting fifth in the standings, Lorenzo is eager to make up ground on those above him - starting with the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring.

"My real performance this year has not arrived yet," he told the official MotoGP website. "Maybe in Mugello I was able to fight, in Argentina I finished third and in Montmelo I was okay, not at the end of the race but all the weekend I was okay.

"But there is something that is still not really right for my bike, for my riding style, for my feeling on the bike. The one litre less of fuel this year makes the Yamaha engine a bit more aggressive at the first touch on acceleration.

"This together with the new tyres, which are harder this year, along with my physical condition at the beginning of the season, makes it three conditions against my performance. It was really difficult to be competitive.

"Now I feel good physically."

Aside from a retirement in the opening race, Lorenzo endured his worst finish of the calendar last time out in Assen, ranking 13th and later acknowledging a loss of confidence at a venue where he sustained the collarbone injury last year.

However, the Yamaha man expects performances to improve, stating that some of the technological issues that dogged him previously are almost over with.

He added: "After Montmelo we tried something on the electronics which makes the bike more like last year and now I understand the tyres more. These three conditions are now nearly solved."
