Lorenzo plotting Marquez's downfall ahead of Qatar opener

Jorge Lorenzo believes the improvements made by Yamaha during the close-season could see him challenge defending Marc Marquez for the 2015 MotoGP title.

Marquez has dominated the sport since arriving with Repsol Honda in 2013, comfortably winning back-to-back titles, but Lorenzo is confident of being closer to his fellow Spaniard this season.

And the 27-year-old is not ruling out a third crown as he looks to improve on just two race wins in the 2014 season - his lowest tally since his first season in the top tier of motorbike racing.

"As always I hope to be able to try and fight for the title," Lorenzo said ahead this weekend's race in Qatar.

"Whether you win it or not in the end depends on many factors, but at least we have to go into the season with the intention of fighting for the title.

"I think that, if the bike works well and I stay in good shape physically, I can do it. The bike is much better this year.

"I will try to beat Marquez, who has won two years in a row. Since he joined MotoGP nobody could beat him, but I think we can do it if we meet all our set requirements."
