Loeb to make WRC return in Monte Carlo

SebastienLoeb

The 40-year-old, who will not compete in any other rallies, dominated the sport between 2004 and 2012, winning nine consecutive WRC titles for the French manufacturer.

Having stepped away from full-time rallying in the 2013 season, Loeb switched his focus this year to competing for Citroen in World Touring Cars, finishing third overall in the drivers' standings after taking two race wins and six further podiums.

French dominance of the WRC title has continued in Loeb's absence with Sebastien Ogier taking the 2013 and 2014 drivers' titles racing for Volkswagen.

Loeb's return is just for one rally, meaning he will not challenge his compatriot for the crown, but the veteran remains excited to compete at an event he has won seven times.

He said: "I have to say that I haven't hesitated one second when I was offered to compete at the 2015 WRC season's opening round with the DS 3 WRC.

"Daniel [Elena, co-driver] and I have a special story with Monte Carlo Rally, which is one of our favourites.

"We love the roads, the tricky tyre choices, the incredible atmosphere along the stages - we are very impatient to see that again.

"With DS 3 WRC - 'my little bomb' as I used to call it from the very start - I have very good memories. I hope Monte 2015 can be added to those.

"Of course it will be a personal challenge as I haven't competed in that discipline since over a year.

"In a few days I will take part in Rallye du Var and I will be able to find my marks with the car. Then we have found a few holes in my schedule to plan some tests.

"It's a great opportunity for me to be back in the WRC family while it's the season break in the WTCC."
