Horner seeing signs of improvement in Malaysia

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has looked to rebuild bridges with engine suppliers Renault after encouraging signs in Malaysia.

Since Melbourne, a war of words between the two has erupted with Horner brandishing the power unit "undriveable", and Renault boss Cyril Abiteboul labelling Red Bull's designer Adrian Newey a liar over his comments about the system.

Despite their far from perfect preparation, Red Bull saw some improvements in Friday's practice sessions with Daniil Kvyat fourth fastest and Horner has moved to take their partnership forward again.

"I think what happened, happened, in Melbourne, it was a frustrating weekend," he said. "From start to finish it didn't go in any way to plan.

"I think what's encouraging is that the two teams have reacted, and we're experiencing some of those steps on track today.

"It's always a difficult situation, particularly when you are a race team with an engine supplier, I think the way the two teams have worked has been very commendable.

"We have enjoyed great deal of success with Renault-Nissan alliance over the last six years, there have been 50 Grand Prix wins and eight world championships all with Renault power.

"The frustration at the first race was that expectations were higher than what we saw, we appeared to have taken a retrograde step, but I think having researched properly into those issues Renault have started to understand them now and already we've seen a positive step forward."
