Christian Horner has backed Daniil Kvyat to showcase his talent at Red Bull in the upcoming Formula One campaign.

Kyvat was part of the development team at Toro Rosso last season, finishing on eight points for his individual efforts.

The team who finished last season behind Mercedes in second place have been forced to promote from within after Sebastian Vettel's departure from Red Bull to Ferrari.

The 20-year-old will join Daniel Ricciardo in the new-look team for the upcoming season that starts in Melbourne in March.

"My thoughts on the new driver line up are that it's a new era for the team," said Horner.

"It's a young and dynamic line up. We know the quality of Ricciardo following his performances last year and I think he was very much the standout driver last year and put an incredible campaign together.

"In Kvyat, he's an outstanding talent, he's a prospect who's come through GP3, winning that championship and then graduating to Toro Rosso.

"His campaign last year was fantastic, the speed, commitment and determination that he demonstrated were all the qualities we were looking for.

"So when Sebastian announced he was leaving for Ferrari, Dani was the obvious choice."

Partner Ricciardo claims he is excited to race alongside someone new, after competing with four-time champion Vettel last year.

"I'm looking forward to racing alongside Dani - we've known each other for a fair few years now and I know he's fast," he said.

"I haven't worked with him before so I don't know what else he's going to bring so I'm excited for that."
