Hendrick Motorsports has appealed the penalty issued to Jimmie Johnson's team on Wednesday.

Johnson's team was assessed a P1-level penalty for receiving written warnings in two consecutive events, with the infractions coming in pre-qualifying inspections before the All-Star Race and the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Because the decision is being appealed, the penalty, last choice in the pit selection process at this weekend's FedEx 400 at Dover, has been deferred, NASCAR announced. The choice of pit stall for the race will now be based on the results of qualifying, which is scheduled for Friday.

No date has been set for the appeal.
