Hamilton, Vettel slam Pirelli wets

The Italian tyre supplier has come in for criticism throughout the season, Williams' Felipe Massa recently labelling their decision to only provide hard and medium tyres at the upcoming Brazilian Grand Prix as "completely unacceptable".

Hamilton, winner of the Russian Grand Prix and also the rain-affected race in Japan earlier in October, said drivers were put in a difficult position when there is water on the track.

"It is no secret that they are not the greatest wet tyres that I have known," the McLaren driver, and championship leader, said.

"The slick will always be improved, but I guess not so much focus gets put on the wet.

"You want a tyre that clears the water and does not force us to go to the intermediate when it is so much quicker, and when it is probably not safe enough to do so."

Four-time defending champion Vettel said he raised his concerns prior to the Japan GP, where Marussia driver Jules Bianchi was involved in a crash that left the Frenchman with life-threatening injuries.

"It's definitely something we've passed on already, not just after Japan," the Red Bull star said.

"Currently the extreme tyre has a very narrow window and the intermediate is quicker.

"As soon as you've got rid of most of the water, you try to put the intermediate on, taking a lot of risk into account, just because it's the quicker tyre.

"That's something we need to work on."
