Hamilton reveals Rosberg admission

The duo were involved in an incident early in the race on Sunday at Spa-Francorchamps, with Hamilton eventually forced to retire after suffering a punctured tyre.

Driver's championship leader Rosberg's wing was damaged but he recovered to finish second behind Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.

The collision occurred when Rosberg tried to pass his team-mate, with contact made between the German's wing and Hamilton's front left tyre.

Hamilton was clearly frustrated by the incident and suggested calling time on the race regularly before retiring in 16th place late on - and the Briton has revealed that Rosberg admitted he could have avoided the collision after the race.

"It looked quite clear to me but we just had a meeting about it and he basically said he did it on purpose," Hamilton said.

"He said he did it on purpose, he said he could have avoided it. He said 'I did it to prove a point', he basically said 'I did it to prove a point'.

"I was gobsmacked when I was listening to the meeting. You need to ask him what point he was trying to make.

"He just came in there and said it was all my fault."

The strained relationship between Rosberg and Hamilton, who occupy the top two spots in the driver's standings, has been the subject of much discussion this season.

One of the more notable incidents involving the two came at the Hungarian Grand Prix when Hamilton went against team orders and refused to allow Rosberg to pass him.
