Hamilton relishing 'special' US Grand Prix

The Brit topped the podium at the Circuit of the Americas in Travis County, Texas two years ago and another success on Sunday would see him move a step closer to winning his second drivers' title.

Hamilton went down as the first winner of the Russian Grand Prix in Sochi, having eased to a fourth consecutive victory last time out to stretch his lead over Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg to 17 points.

With only two races remaining after this weekend, time is running out for Rosberg in his quest to be crowned world champion for the first time, but the German has vowed that he will not "give up the fight".

Rosberg has finished 13th and ninth at Austin in the last two years, but will be expecting a marked improvement on those performances in a race reduced to 18 cars.

Marussia this week followed Caterham in going into administration, so neither team will feature in the Austin extravaganza.

While those troubled teams face an uncertain future, Mercedes have been basking in winning the constructors' title in Sochi and Hamilton hopes he will have more cause for celebration this weekend.

He said: "Crossing the line on Sunday in Sochi was a really amazing moment.

"To win the very first Formula One Russian Grand Prix and help the team achieve the first constructors' championship for Mercedes-Benz with a one-two finish - it couldn't have got much better.

"Everybody has worked so hard to achieve this title and they all deserve to savour the moment.

"Of course, we still have three races left to decide the drivers' championship - starting in Austin, which is one of the best weekends of the year.

"A lot of the American side of my family come to the race, plus I won the first ever grand prix at the circuit back in 2012, so it's a special one for me.

"I really enjoy going there and I'm looking forward to another great race - hopefully ending up with another Stetson hat on the top step of the podium."

The two races in Austin have proved to be a resounding success and Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo, whose team-mate Sebastian Vettel won here 12 months ago, rates the US Grand Prix as his favourite of the season.

He said: "Hand on heart, this is probably the date on the calendar I look forward to the most. I've loved every minute of being in Austin: when they picked this place for the US Grand Prix, they absolutely nailed it.

"The city is awesome. I love listening to live music and this is a great place for that, plus Texas feels like real America, and that's something I've really enjoyed just sinking into the last two seasons."
