Hamilton hoping for more competition in 2015

Lewis Hamilton hopes there will be more competition in Formula One in 2015 after Mercedes dominated last year with 16 race wins.

The British-based outfit were miles ahead of their rivals in 2014 and took the constructors' championship by 296 points from Red Bull, while Hamilton claimed the drivers' title ahead of team-mate Nico Rosberg.

Early-season testing has seen Williams, Sauber and Ferrari show promising signs ahead of the opening race in Australia later this month; although Mercedes were again fastest.

Hamilton has been encouraged by the improvements made throughout the paddock and is relishing more of a title fight this time around.

"It will be the same top teams as it always is," he told Laureus.com. "It's an evolution. The cars are going to be evolutions of last year's cars, so it'll be the same people that we were racing with last year.

"Red Bull, Williams and then, you know, you're hoping that it's a bit of a better year for those like McLaren and Ferrari so that we have more people to race.

"That's what racing's about, it's to be racing with everyone. The more people the merrier.

"There was one year we had, it was like the first seven races were won by a different driver, a different team, that's what people want to see, but, most importantly, if the cars are close you can have real races where you're overtaking and battling and that’s what I love doing."

As for Mercedes' prospects, the two-time world champion is confident they can have another successful season.

"I feel good about this year," he added. "I feel fresh, I feel fit.

"I will plan to drive as good as I did last year, but I want to be better.

"I hope that we have the package and I hope that we have some good races, but I'm just grateful that I get to race again."
