Hamilton completes Hungarian practice double

Lewis Hamilton

The Mercedes man was quickest in the first session at the Hungaroring and set the pace once again ahead of team-mate Nico Rosberg - who was also second-fastest in the opening session - in his second drive of the day.

Hamilton will attempt to secure a record-breaking fifth Hungarian Grand Prix victory on Sunday and is also striving to become the first driver to win three in a row on a circuit that he has taken a real liking to.

The Brit's main objective will be to close the 14-point gap to leader Rosberg in the drivers' championship, and he struck a psychological blow by bettering his time in the first session as he clocked one minute 24. 482 seconds on soft tyres in session two.

Rosberg was victorious on home soil in Germany last weekend and he will need to pick up the pace in qualifying, having got around the twisty circuit two-tenths of a second slower than his team-mate in both sessions.

World champion Sebastian Vettel was third-fastest in the second session, with Fernando Alonso fourth and Kevin Magnussen fifth.

Kimi Raikkonen had been third-quickest in the opening session, but was sixth in the afternoon ahead of Daniel Ricciardo, the in-form Valtteri Bottas, Jenson Button and Felipe Massa.

Rosberg holds a 14-point lead over Hamilton in the drivers' standings following his success in Germany.
