Xfinity Series Dover results: Chris Buescher wins; teammate upset

Chris Buescher

While race leaders pitted for fuel and tires with under 20 laps to go at Dover International Speedway on Saturday, Chris Buescher decided to take a risk.

With the chance he might run out of fuel, Buescher stretched out 98 laps on one tank at the one-mile concrete oval and led the final 10 laps of the Buckle Up 200 to win his second race of the Xfinity Series season. He is now 15 points ahead in the standings in front of Ty Dillon, who finished eighth.

Matt Kenseth was second for his 200th career Xfinity Series top 10 finish. Kenseth is third on the all-time Xfinity Series top 10 finishes list behind Kevin Harvick (240) and Kyle Busch (210).

Erik Jones, who was leading with 16 laps to go, was caught speeding in his final pit stop, so he did not celebrate his 19th birthday on Saturday in victory lane as he would've liked. He finished ninth.

Pole winner Darrell Wallace Jr. led 52 laps but was frustrated with Buescher, his teammate, after he felt the race winner wrecked him with 10 laps left.

"I asked the spotter after the race and he said we got run over," Wallace told Fox Sports after the race. "They talk about that 'Dash for Cash' stuff and we got jinxed. I am glad I am not in it for the next one. I was saving fuel there and Chris just ran over me and he ends up winning. It should be interesting Monday morning.

"I thought we were doing OK until that little incident. I would say I am happy Roush (Fenway Racing) won but I am not. I have been racing with Chris a lot, so I don’t know. I might call into the Monday morning meeting. We will see."

Buescher responded when he spoke to Fox in victory lane.

"We are sitting there and he was saving a lot more fuel than I was because they were shorter and I was able to run into the corner harder," Buescher said, "but I couldn't do anything with the track being pretty narrow and two guys racing for the win. It was tough."
