Formula One will be quicker in 2015, says Pirelli

Having helped the sports transition to new power units this year, the Italian manufacturer have now set about making tyres that can provide more pace during races.

Pirelli came under fire at times in 2014, with world champion Lewis Hamilton also criticising the quality of their wet tyres following the Japanese Grand Prix.

However, motorsport director Paul Hembery says they had to be "conservative" this season and that will change next year - which could see faster times.

"This year, we did come in to a year of a little bit of unknown technology," he told Crash.net. "We had a reasonable idea of what to expect but there's no substitute really for actually seeing what it translates to in track performance.

"We've seen big improvements already towards the end of this season and that's without them really being able to get anywhere near the powertrain in the way they'd like to.

"So we expect quite a big jump again in performance next season.

"If you're talking a second or even up to two seconds a lap speed improvement that dramatically changes the way the tyres are used."

The 2015 Formula One campaign gets under way in Australia in March.
