FIA rules out Rosberg punishment

Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton

Hamilton suffered a puncture during the second lap at Spa-Francorchamps on Sunday as a result of a collision with Mercedes team-mate Rosberg.

The British driver, who was forced to retire from the race, claimed that Rosberg had admitted clipping Hamilton's car "on purpose" and to "prove a point".

Rosberg responded by denying making such comments and the FIA, Formula One's governing body, will not be looking into the incident between the two title rivals.

FIA spokesman Pierre Regent told the Daily Mail: "The FIA will not intervene in this issue. Only a 'new element' that would have appeared after the results became final could justify us opening an investigation.

"A comment alleged to have been made in an internal briefing and later denied by the team itself does not constitute such a 'new element'."

Mercedes head of motorsport Toto Wolff warned after the race that there must be no repeat of the "unacceptable" crash.

Rosberg holds a 29-point lead over Hamilton in the drivers' championship after the German finished second behind Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.
