Engine change would give more flexibility – Ferrari

Ferrari technical director James Allison says plans to increase the engine allocation for the 2015 Formula One season would be a huge benefit to the teams.

Reports have indicated an agreement has been made by the teams for the number of engines allowed to be used across the 19 races to change from four to five.

The FIA still have to approve the proposal, but Allison says it would enable teams throughout the paddock to introduce more upgrades to their engines, and therefore provide better racing on track.

"It's relatively hot off the press, that is, so honestly I've not really thought about it greatly," Allison told Autosport.

"Clearly it moves in the direction of offering us more flexibility, more opportunity to bring things to the track so we will go away and figure out what we can do if and when that rule happens."

Any change would be a huge boost to Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, after he changed his engine following the first practice session in Australia earlier this month.
