The Ducati rider sits fifth in the riders' standings this year having collected points at every race in 2014 apart from in Aragon last time out when he was forced to retire on the fifth lap.

Dovizioso performed well throughout the weekend in Spain with good pace during free practice and qualifying, only to be left disappointed in the race.

Next up is Motegi, with the Italian hoping for a similar performance at a track where he finished second at in 2010.

Dovizioso believes the track is well suited to his style and the 28-year-old is looking forward to a productive weekend.

"Motegi is a track that I like, especially because I am a hard braker and this is an advantage, due to the characteristics of the track," he told the official MotoGP website.

"I think that our GP14 [bike] can again be competitive in Japan, because in the last four races we have always been competitive at circuits with completely different characteristics.

"So for sure we'll be going to Motegi very motivated.

"I've scored some good results in MotoGP there, especially in 2010 when I set pole position, my only pole so far in MotoGP, and then finished the race with a great second place."

Dovizioso is the leading Ducati rider this season with 142 points, some 50 points clear of team-mate Andrea Iannone with four races to go.
