If Jimmie Johnson wants to capture his 10th victory at Dover International Speedway, he will have to do so from the 14th starting position and he'll have to beat Denny Hamlin, who won the pole Friday for the FedEx 400.

Hamlin captured the pole with a speed of 160.121 mph. It was his third pole of the season.

Johnson, the six-time Cup champion, was fastest in the first practice earlier in the day with a speed of 162.962 mph but finished well off the pace in qualifying with a speed of 158.814 mph in Round 2. He failed to advance to the final round of 12.

Starting beside Hamlin will be hometown favorite Martin Truex Jr, who is hoping to return to victory lane at the speedway where he captured his first Cup win in 2007.

Starting on Row 2 will be Kyle Larson, followed by Matt Kenseth, who has one win, seven top-10s and a 12.0 average finish in his last 10 races at Dover. Rounding out the top 10 were Joey Logano, Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Kyle Busch.

For the second week in a row, Hendrick Motorsports failed to make the final round of qualifying and Kasey Kahne didn't advance from the first round. He will start 25th.

His teammate Jeff Gordon, who is still seeking his first win in his final season driving the No. 24 car, will start 22nd. Gordon owns five wins, 18 top-fives (40.9 percent) and 25 top-10 finishes (56.8 percent) in his career at Dover.

Jeff Green and Travis Kvapil failed to qualify for Sunday's race.
