Ricciardo was stripped of second position and 18 championship points following the opening race of the 2014 Formula One season after the 24-year-old Australian had been found to have 'consistently exceeded' the maximum legal fuel flow rate of 100 kilograms per hour.

Red Bull challenged that decision at the FIA International Court of Appeal in Paris on Monday but the international motorsport governing body - Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) - announced after the six-hour hearing that a final decision would not be announced until Tuesday.

"We expect to give a decision by tomorrow morning at the latest...then the full decision with the motivation by the end of the week," the International Court of Appeal's secretary general Jean-Christophe Breillat said on Monday.

Representatives from Mercedes, Lotus, Williams, McLaren and Force India also attended the hearing.

Mercedes QC Paul Harris called on the FIA to suspend Red Bull for the rest of the 2014 season to make them 'acutely aware' of their offence.

"We are, frankly, and with great respect, concerned that Red Bull have shown such a flagrant and deliberate disregard for these rules that there is a real risk they will do it again," Harris said.

"We are here to seek to ensure that that does not happen, we must have a level playing field going forward for the remainder of the season.

"We apprehend that the other teams represented here today take the same view, which is why they are here today.

"We respectfully submit that the most effective way to ensure that Red Bull do not flount further instructions from the FIA is for this court to recognise the severity of their infringement and to impose a further sanction upon them which is to be suspended for the rest of the reason, so that they are acutely aware."
