Crew members hit in pit-road incident in Indy 500

Indy500 - Cropped

Two crew members were struck by a car in an incident on the pit road midway through the Indianapolis 500, injuring one more seriously than the other, according to the driver of the car that hit the crewmen.

The incident occurred when the No. 63 Dale Coyne Racing car driven by Pippa Mann struck the No. 19 Dale Coyne car driven by James Davison, pushing it into the No. 18 pit stall of team-mate Tristan Vautier, striking the two right-side tyre changers.

One crew member was treated and released from the infield care center.

The other was reportedly placed in an ambulance and appeared to be more seriously injured, according to Davison. The names of the two crewmen have not been released.

"I think we just took his feet away from him rather than run him over," Davison told ABC after the incident.
