Coulthard: Details of Alonso crash don't add up

David Coulthard - CROPPED

David Coulthard believes key details are yet to emerge about the testing crash that has ruled Fernando Alonso out of the opening race of the 2015 Formula One season.

The McLaren driver slammed into a wall at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona last month and spent time in hospital, his team later revealing scan results showing "no evidence whatsoever of any injury".

Alonso did, however, sustain "a loss of temporary memory", according to team principal Eric Boullier, and will not race in Melbourne. Coulthard - himself a former McLaren driver – is sceptical about the information that has been made public so far.

"I think there is more to this than we are being told about at this time," Coulthard told BBC Sport.

"There is conflicting information coming out, saying there are zero signs of any injury but then three days of hospital for concussion.

"It does not add up. He does not need three days of privacy, he can go to his own private residence and have that."
