Sheila G. Elliott, wife of noted NASCAR engine builder Ernie Elliott and aunt of current driver Chase Elliott, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of felony aggravated assault, Dawson News reports.

The sister-in-law of NASCAR Hall of Famer Bill Elliott was accused of revving the engine of her 2004 Mercedes Benz sedan in an attempt to run her husband over with the vehicle, forcing him to climb "underneath a trailer for safety," an arrest warrant shows.

Ernie Elliott was not harmed in the incident that was reported on March 24, six days after the alleged assault occurred. Authorities have not specified what might have provoked the incident.

"Cpl. Ethan Taffar investigated and was about to take her into custody (March 18) for aggravated assault under family violence when a medical condition arose, which had to be dealt with at that particular moment," Dawson County Sheriff's Capt. Tony Wooten told the Dawson News.

Ernie Elliott's long list of accomplishments include the 1988 Sprint Cup title with Bill, 51 Sprint Cup poles, 39 wins, 148 top-five finishes and 291 top-10 finishes, Auto week reports.

Sheila Elliott, 63, was scheduled to appear before a judge Wednesday.
