Button misses Bahrain Grand Prix with electrical problems

Jenson Button failed to make the grid for the Bahrain Grand Prix after his McLaren encountered further electrical problems on Sunday.

The 2009 Formula One world champion suffered car failure during both Friday practice sessions and the same fault meant he failed to complete the first qualifying session on Saturday.

Subsequently, Button was due to start at the back of the grid for Sunday's race, but McLaren confirmed the Briton would have to sit out.

"Sadly we are not able to ready Jenson's car," McLaren posted on Twitter. "During fire-up, data indicated an issue originating from his earlier electrical problems."

It marks further frustration for a McLaren team that endured a nightmare pre-season, and those issues have continued into the early throes of the campaign as the British constructor get to grips with Honda power.

Felipe Massa had to endure similar drama on the grid as his car failed to launch for the formation lap, though his Williams recovered to start from the pit lane.
