Button: It's McLaren or bust

British driver Button is in competition with McLaren team-mate Kevin Magnussen to partner the incoming Fernando Alonso in 2015 and speculation is rife that the 2009 world champion could be the man to make way for the Spaniard.

McLaren held a board meeting on Thursday, but a spokesperson revealed that no decision had been made on their driver line-up for next season.

Button, who finished eighth in the drivers' standings in 2014, said he will respect the decision McLaren come to over his future.

And should McLaren overlook the 34-year-old for a spot on the team next season, Button ruled out joining another F1 team.

"Hopefully we'll know soon," he said. "It's better for all of us so that we can choose our next challenge whether it's in F1 or elsewhere.

"I will respect their decision whatever it is. They have their reasons, so yeah, we will see soon.

"If I'm not with McLaren I won't be in Formula One. I only want to be in Formula One if I can be with a top team that gives me the chance to... win in the future.

"I'm not here to make up the numbers. I've won a world championship and all I care about now is fighting for those wins."

Button said he had an "exciting" new challenge in the works, if his future is indeed outside of F1.

"I have ideas [if not in Formula One]. I can't share them with you right now but yes I have a direction I'd like to go and an exciting new challenge," he added.

"I don't know yet what's happening. I can't tell you anymore which is a shame."
