Brawn: Hamilton still in title contention

Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn believes Lewis Hamilton can still win the Formula One drivers' championship after winning in Hungary.

Hamilton crossed the line first at the Hungaroring on Sunday, picking up 25 points to reduce the gap to championship leader Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull to 48 points with nine races to go in 2013.

It was Hamilton's first victory of the season; a result that Brawn hopes will revive his title hopes and lay the foundations for the rest of the campaign.

"It is so fragile (Hamilton's title hopes) and I think it is still open and we certainly won't be giving up," Brawn said.

"This was a very good weekend for the team, from beginning to end.

"It is an important step to get that race win and there is absolutely no reason why more should not follow.

"Lewis showed faith in us at the end of last year and people were speculating about whether it was a bad move or not.

"I hope we have now started to demonstrate that his faith was justified and despite it being very early days, it is encouraging."

The next F1 Grand Prix is at the Circuit of Spa Francorchamps in Belgium on August 25.
